These are the files that are associated with a gamer created As Played file (the SOM versions for 1995- to date follow a slightly different procedure).

In the AP zip should be:
2 x sch files (*al.sch; *nl.sch)
You may already have sch files for the relevant season that are resident in your Rosters folder. If you want to keep these older versions (which probably represent the As Scheduled version) then remove them to storage before moving the AP schs into Rosters.

2 x trn files (*al.trn; *nl.trn)
These are the transaction records that are responsible for moving players on + off teams. You will not have had prior versions of these files, so it's safe to move these into Rosters.

2 x lup files (*al.lup; *nl.lup)
These are the game by game lineup files that will set the actual lineups when the game is selected for play. You will not have had prior versions of these files, so it's safe to move these into Rosters.

Possibly a readme file with information of note to that particular season, such as which players to hold out of the team roster until rosters expand in Sept, in order to avoid complications with the SOM 12 player fringe limit.

(The trn + lup file may be opened + read with a text editor, though the lup file is too large for a basic text reader like Notepad. You will not be able to read the sch file in a text editor as it's a binary coded file.)

You will also need to install the fringe player files http://www.geocities.com/gls84/somdwnldf.html The AP trn + lup files consider every player who made a starting appearance in the lineup, + (in most cases) every player who was called up for service time. If you haven't added the fringe players (+ SOM did not issue complete rosters for most of these seasons), then the game flow will be continually interrupted when the game's unable to find the required players. (Even the computer generated seasons do not always contain every player. To install the fringe players use cut/ paste (not Merge).

These are the additional game settings required:
Select season
Options/ Rules: Do Not Use Injuries; Max: Force Daily Inj- OFF.
Options/ Lineups + Usage: Automatic Lineups, Give Sched Days Off, Auto Transactions, Ignore Overusage- unless the read file suggests using Try To Limit Overusage (because the complete transaction info wasn't available when making the trn file).

The lup files will insure that the correct starting pitchers will make their appropriate starts. However, none of these files will fill out the actual starting pitcher rotation, to protect against the computer manager using a starter in relief at an inopportune time. You may wish to refer to the Starting Pitcher matchups which are found at http://www.retrosheet.org/gamelogs/index.html + insert the starters in Team/ Update Comp Mgr/ Starter Sched, perhaps in advance in weekly or monthly batches if that's more convenient.

Before you begin season play, it's probably not a bad idea to scan through your opening rosters + refer to the team code of the players. The trn files, when opening for business, will look to find players on their SOM assigned teams before relocating them to the teams that they opened the season with. So if a player is included with the Giants, where he began the season, + not the Mets, where he finished + as SOM logs him, the trn file will not find the player resulting in an error message (which doesn't do damage or cause a crash or anything drastic, but is a nuisance). A good reference guide is the Neft + Cohen BB Encyclopedia for checking with which teams players finished the season.

You must also make sure that your schedule is set to commence on the correct day. Simply inserting the sch files does not insure this. Refer back to the link for Starting Pitchers which gives you the opening season dates, then check
League/ Sched Maintenance
Enter starting date/ Import locate where you've placed the sch files (Rosters)/ Open Import/ OK
This needs to be done for each league that you intend to play using the As Played files.

You may need 1 run through on the season to correct any oversights, which are generally due to players not where they should be. Although this may sound slightly complicated, once you have tried a season out you'll find it very matter- of-fact.
