Are Len's ballparks different than the ones SOM already offers?
They're all "different." If you haven't looked at them yet, you may be disappointed (in all or some). I opted to make the BPs accessible to all SOM players, not just owners of the _Color BP key disk_. Therefore my BPs are in 4 color greyscale (actually b + w) so that you won't be prompted for the color key disk when installing. I expected that most players don't own the key disk. Unfortunately the BPs aren't of the same high definition quality as the contemporary BPs used by SOM. However they are superior to the representations used by SOM for the historical BPs. There's a range of quality to these as well. Some are of a very high standard, most are certainly adequate as an alternative to SOM's, but some are rather poor, and were only used as I could find nothing better.
You'll find that in some cases the positioning of the player names are far from ideal. This is a reflection of what I had to work with (SOM doesn't use any 3rd base line views) and that some I did just for the benefit of players of older seasons (the earliest that I've replayed is 59) and therefore I didn't really playtest before uploading. In any event there's bound to be some that you'll like.
If I download and install some of your parks, does that mean I can no longer use SOM's?
Absolutely not. Here's what you do:
Create a new folder in your cdrombb dir., called, say, _original_.
After you decide which of the BPs from Gary's page that you want to use, cut the BP + BP.loc files from the cdrombb/data folder + paste into your new original folder. That way you can always return them for use if you don't want to keep the "new" ones.
Now you can paste in to the data folder the "new" BP + BP.loc that you want to try. As I said the color BP key disk shouldn't be called for by the game, so as soon as you load a game the "new" version should come up smoothly.
You'll need to rejig the BP settings (off/def color; small/large scoreboard; etc.) as the game will revert to default view.
What do the various codes mean ( like bp037d)?
About the BP codes:
BP000
BP000.loc
No code. This was the initial stadium shot offered for download. It
will be called by the Game as the default backdrop for both day + night
games if no _d_ or _n_ BP is present in the Data Directory.
BP000d
BP000d.loc
The _d_ indicates to the Game a day game shot.
BP000n
BP000n.loc
The _n_ indicates a night game shot. Note that this was used for the
convenience of offering an alternative shot for that ballpark + does not
necessarily mean that the shot is a night version.
BP000x
BP000x.loc
The _x_ was used as a means of distinguishing the shot from ones previously
offered. The _x_ WILL NOT WORK in the Game. The _x_ in both files MUST
BE REMOVED before use. Replace as either of the 3 above choices (provided,
of course, the one you edit to is not already in the Directory.)
